BMW Group Lightweight and Engineering Center

BMW Group Lightweight and Engineering Center

The BMW Group Lightweight and Engineering Center in Landshut sends out a strong signal for Germany as a location for innovation. Anyone who puts innovations on the road first will lead in global competition – also in the future technologies of lightweight construction and electromobility.

Around 160 engineers conduct research there under a common roof of innovative high-tech materials and tailor-made mixed construction concepts for the vehicles of the future. The think-tank in close proximity to production, in which the company has invested around 20 million euros, bundles the existing know-how at the Landshut site and consolidates the BMW Group’s innovation leadership in the key technology of lightweight construction.

The multifunctional building was completed in just ten months of construction. It combines production, laboratory and office space on approximately 7,600 m² in modern, inspiring architecture. The office wing takes up the idea of the project area, which has successfully proven itself in the Munich Research and Innovation Center for decades. This means flexible workplaces, plenty of room for communication and creativity as well as short decision-making channels. In addition, daily research uses systems and technologies that exploit the opportunities of digitization: for example, virtual reality, 3D printers or the latest generation of CFRP weavers and collaborative robots.
